Outfitting Your New Place

Moving in to a new apartment or home is filled with promise and possibilities – the potential is endless yet at the same time you need to cover the basics from toilet paper holders and trash cans to pillows and bedding. Regardless of your long term plans you will need to have a place to sleep on that first night, if even on a foam mattress, so it’s a good idea to take a “camping” approach when packing and planning for a move.

Segregate the items you’ll need for a few days including a set of pillows, bedding and towels, along with toiletries, clothing, cleaning supplies and some dishes and utensils. You’ll need rest and sustenance to tackle the moving process! Planning is essential and one good way to get a jump start is to look online – some of the major bed and bath store websites have moving checklists or college checklists which can be modified to use in anticipation of your relocation.

In a new place it’s nice to start out fresh so you may be in the market for new toilet paper holders, trash cans, organizers and storage containers, bedding, pots and pans and tableware. Decide what you will be taking with you, what you might be able to borrow or have donated from family and friends and what you would actually like to have new (hint: this would be a great time to register and hold a housewarming party!) and then compare against the checklist.

You can easily find time to browse online and look for new items; share your wish list with friends and family to get their feedback on the major purchases, have fun with it and your move to a new place will be positively easy.
